The Different Types of Windows

1. Casement Windows
Casement windows have hinges on one side of the window. They open outwards similar to a door. Instead of unlocking and pushing the window open, there are handles that you crank to open the window. These windows are good for areas that are harder to reach as the crank opening method ensures an easy opening. They can be opened to any angle which makes it easier for a breeze to get in.
2. Bay Windows
Bay windows are made up of three sections. Usually, there will be a picture window in the middle with a smaller window on each side. Some bay windows are big enough to allow a small space for a bench or window seat inside the window. Bay windows will extend slightly past the rest of the house. Bay windows are beautiful windows, but depending on the shape of your home, they can be more on the costly side.
3. Bow Windows
Bow windows are similar to bay windows. Bow windows are curved windows and will have at least four window panels. Installing a bow window is a great way to add a little extra space. Bow windows will sometimes use casement windows to allow for ventilation.
4. Picture Windows
Picture windows are a popular window style. Picture windows are larger windows that do not open. They offer a great view of the outdoors. Picture windows are good for places with an unobstructed view or that may not need a lot of ventilation.
5. Awning Windows
Awning windows are similar to casement windows. They also open by the turn of a crank, but they have hinges on the top of the window, creating an awning look, instead of on the sides. Awning windows are also a good way to get ventilation inside.
6. Hopper Windows
Hopper windows are similar to awning windows but have hinges on the bottom of the window; the opposite of the awning windows. It is common for hopper windows to go into the basement of your home because they open at the top. Hopper windows could also be good to put in bathrooms. These windows are smaller and can fit in smaller spaces, but they offer good ventilation.
7. Single-Hung Windows
A single-hung window is quite common in most homes. The single-hung window will have a top pane and a bottom pain. However, only the bottom pane of the window will be operational. The top pane of the window will not open.
8. Double-Hung Windows
A double-hung window is very similar to a single-hung window. Just like the single-hung window, there are two panes. However, with the double-hung windows, both the top and the bottom can open. Because both panes are operational, the double-hung window will be slightly more expensive than a single-hung window.
